Right, Dr Dan Gikonyo and me at the United Nations reception in New York in Sep 2010, picture was taken by Lookman Sulaimon Arounfale MS.
I first met Dr Gikonyo in Nairobi, in his beautiful Karen Hospital, which is a self-sustaining, green cardiology hospital. He is the personal physician of the President of Kenya, and created the Karen Hospital with cardiologist Dr Betty Gikonyo, who is also his wife of over 3 decades, and CEO of the hospital, and his friend Mr James Mageria.
The Karen Hospital is a success story for Kenya, for East Africa, for Africa. Read about it and other stories from Kenya, click here.

Kenya Celebrates Son of Kenya Becoming President of the United States of America. SJ Dodgson. MJoTA 2012 v5n1 p0726
Above,
Washington Kenyans and friends came to a church service to greet the
delegation from Kenya that came to celebrate the inauguration of a son
of Kenya as the president of the United States of America.
Staring
at me suspiciously is Moses Masika Wetang'ula. He is a lawyer and a
powerful speaker, I heard him in church. He is a member of parliament
representing the Sirisia Consitituency and he played a role in calming
down Kenya after post-election violence after the Dec 2007 general
elections. He was the Minister for Foreign Affairs from Jan 2008 to Mar
2012. He was educated in a Quaker school in Kenya, and then the
University of Nairobi School of Law. I believe he is a good, decent man.
Time will tell.
Mr Wetang'ula spoke with me that night, and a
few days later during the embassy celebration of Mr Obama's
inauguration. He knew all about my visit to Nairobi in Aug 2008 and my
attempts with Macharia Waruingi to secure funding for Nairobi Women's
Hospital. No secrets in Nairobi.

Sons and Daughters of Kenya Run Faster than the Wind. SJ Dodgson. MJoTA 2012 v6n2 p0728
The
Olympics started yesterday, and during the opening ceremony, I lost
interest after the Queen of England parachuted in from a helicopter.
Well, she did not, but someone dressed like her did, and the real Queen
did indeed appear in a video with James Bond. I mean, how could anything
top that?
What I am expecting in the Olympic Games is to hear
about Kenyans running really fast. Seems to me a lot of Kenya moves
fast. Certainly the humans, my goodness, but what about the ostriches,
the lions, elephants. Kenya is about moving fast no matter what your
shape or bulk. I am hoping that good people are not being trampled in
Kenya in the run towards economic independence from European and Asian
powers.
Below, ostrich farm in Kenya that I visited. And saw ostriches. In fact, I was with people who ate the ones that did not run fast enough. All my life, I have never understood why humans eat animals, and with such enjoyment.

Nairobi Car Window. SJDodgson. MJoTA 2012 v6n1 p0525
I took this picture in Nairobi in 2008. A copy of a newspaper was next
to the front window, you can see the front page story was all about
Barack Obama, the first US president who is both the son of America and
Africa. A lot of wealth in Kenya, do you see the Audi?, and a lot of
poverty.

Today I watched the late Kenyan Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Maathi on videos on this site this morning, click here.
Beautiful clear voice with a message clear and as welcome as water from
a mountain stream. Do what you can, never give up. Powerful message. To
put out a forest fire, if all you can do is carry a single drop of
water, carry it
